The third annual Food for Thought Golf Tournament benefitting Charleston Chefs Feed the Need is right around the corner!  On Monday, January 27th a group of restaurateurs from the Charleston area will gather at America’s Toughest Golf Course, The Ocean Course, for an eventful day of friendly competition, fun, and camaraderie.  The Charleston Chefs Feed the Need Charity, with support from the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association (GRCA) is a coalition of local chefs who are committed to helping area shelters bring food to the hungry.

FFTAs of today we have approximately 25 foursomes ready to tee-off!  From Chefs and GMs to suppliers in F&B, all are ready to unwind after the busy holiday rush and ring in 2014 with their Lowcountry F&B family.  After the rounds of golf are complete the players are welcomed to a casual reception donated by The Ocean Course’s Food & Beverage team with the generous partnership of many of our purveyors.  This is a great opportunity to network professionally and socially.  With no skill or experience required to play in the Food for Thought tournament, it’s a perfect time to relax before the busy season is upon us once again.

Charleston Chefs Feed the Need is committed to providing food and service at four local nonprofits – Tricounty Family Crisis Ministries, East Cooper Meals on Wheels, Crisis Ministries and Neighborhood House.  Their goal is to serve approximately 500 meals per week to these charities.  With the CCFTN’s inception in 2009, when demand for services had increased by an estimated 25-30%, Feed the Need had made the following possible each year: over 25,000 meals served and over $75,000 in food expenses saved.  There is no greater industry than our F&B departments to support the Lowcountry.   We all hear “eat local, buy local” on a daily basis – we benefit local!

About 65% of the cost to play in the tournament is donated to these four charities – after all, as Food & Beverage professionals, what cause is closer to us than making sure people don’t go hungry?
